Tower of the Ascension

February 28, 2008 (wow-I'm so far behind!)
We took a little walk up the Mount of Olives to the Tower of the Ascension, which is a Russian Orthodox monastery and the traditional site of Christ's ascension into heaven. Luckily, we had the very handy Christian Kirkham with us, who speaks Russian fluently and has actually been baptized Russian Orthodox. That worked in our favor, because the nun who showed us around was pretty upset that the rest of us had been misguided. She said that she hoped we were good soil so that the Russian Orthodox "seed" could be planted in us. And we smiled and said thank you in Russian because that's all we know how to say :).
