Boston was snowy and freezing and completely charming, and I spent most of the time there wondering why the crap I chose Rexburg over it. Oh 18-year-old Madison, you make terrible, terrible decisions.
Although the weather didn't help our trip any, the company was great and the conference was a blast, if you're into nerdy writer topics and such. We got there a day early and took to the streets to see some of the city.
Walking in the South End.
Normally I'm not big into photographing my food. But this stuffed French toast was one of the best things I've eaten and I wanted to commemorate.
Cool kids in the subway.
Starting the Freedom Trail.
I mainly took this picture because the sign in the back says "General Hooker Entrance." Hardy har har.
Old North Church.
Not pictured: our delicious and hilarious dinner at Legal Sea Food. Me navigating us to the wrong Harvard Square. Wandering around the real Harvard Square. Trying cannoli's at both Mike's and Maria's, in the same night, with an Italian feast in between (and those cannoli's . . . oh man. I didn't know a cannoli could be like that. Sooo gooooood.) Attending lots and lots and lots of panels at the conference. Learning stuff. Listening to a reading and Q&A with Amy Hempel, one of my very favorite authors. Waking up to a snow-covered city. All the extremely wide people I ended up next to on planes. Talking to David every night on the phone while sitting in my pj's in a dry bathtub, trying to keep my voice down so my roommates could sleep, and missing that man a whole lot.
And then I came home to this: a spotless house, a banner, flowers and the best husband in the world. Hopefully we can make it back to Boston this summer while we're on the East Coast so I can experience it in the warmth and with my little family (including a baby who might be a bit more high maintenance by then, seeing as how it'll be outside of me and all.)
