Athens

After a day out a sea, we docked in Piraeus, Greece, a hop, skip and a jump away from Athens (or just a bus ride.) It was a gorgeous day. Wandering around ruins, seeing the morning sun hitting the Acropolis, climbing Mars' Hill, eating olive oil-drenched chunks of feta cheese, shopping in Plaka, exploring the archeological museum. A beautiful, beautiful, beautiful day.
Dutifully following our tour guide on the way to the Acropolis.

Amphitheater where everyone who is everyone has performed. Like Celine Dion.

I call this one "Tourists Illuminated."

Mars' Hill, where Paul gave his "Unknown God" discourse.

This is what the Acropolis looks like nowadays. I appreciate reconstruction, but I wish it were prettier.

Symbols of Greece.

One of the coolest things to me about Athens was the juxtaposition of the ancient and modern. Here is the Temple of Ephestus in the foreground and modern Athens surrounding.

On Mars' Hill. It was a very windy day and the dress turned out to be a poor choice. I won't post any pictures with evidence of this because I don't want to display my knickers again like I unwittingly did that day.

There is nothing more trashy and more universal than kitten paraphernalia.

Olympic stadium.

One of the city buildings of Athens.

A giant sandal in Plaka.

David having a transcendental moment with his Greek salad. And really, who wouldn't?

Shopping in Plaka, the part of the city that lies below and around the archeological sites.

Another transcendental moment, this time with baklava.

No idea.

The temple of Ephestus.
